My visit to the museum

I awoke to the sound of country music blaring through the room. I checked the clock and it was 8:30 am. I was surprised Mum hadn’t woke me up at 5:45 am before I realised it was a holiday because of Ugadi. I stretched sleepily, brushed my teeth and walked into the shower, yawning lazily. After my shower, I wore my new sleeveless blue frock, brushed my golden bob, tied my pink ribbon in my hair and strode out of the room. Glossy, my puppy leapt into my arms and we walked into the dining room together. Mum said, “I have a surprise for you, Auggie. We are going to the museum!”. I jumped in the air and did a somersault. Glossy licked my face, happily.

After breakfast, Mum and I left for the museum. When we arrived, the first thing I saw were statues of dinosaurs. Just two. One was a T-rex and the other was an.. I don’t know what. I was amazed. Then we went inside and were directed into a room. In that room…get ready for this...was a television showing US and a dinosaur in front of us! My word! What I imagined would happen: Lydia (another person in the room) shouted “MARVOULUOS! STUPENDUS! WOW!” and then fainted, much to our alarm. What really happened: We watched the show and then whispered to each other “Wow, talk about realistic!”. But then I had a feeling that this was going to be a great day. And that was just the beginning of it all. After that we went to see the weapons used in the Stone age, the Ice age.. There was a section that had a variety of spears arranged in the shape of a fan. That was so cool! There even was a free audio tour that went with it. Oh my! When I climbed the steps, I stumbled and nearly fell but Mum caught me. Next, we went to the Bronze Age section where we saw a huge number of bronze statues, even equations engraved in keyplates! One equation which made no sense: 5937501=`YE0R8466%#^*JURIO284GB” was so unclear that I found I couldn’t make anything out of it. We then went deeper into the bright, stone building and found a dinosaur roaring and screaming and stamping in store for us! At first I thought it was real but it wasn’t of course. It was so realistic- it was even blinking! I quickly reached inside my bag, which contained a small box with detailed carving that had a camera inside. I took a video with that and replaced it. Then, finally, we went into the last building, which had an air conditioner! Perfect timing; I was going to die of heat! There we saw immensely valuable statues, enclosed in glass cases. There were police all around… to protect the statues, I guessed. They must have been worth a billion dollars! I wandered around glancing at each one for some time.

There was also a portrait gallery in that building. I got a picture with a portrait and was going to get a picture with my favourites- Lord Connemara and The Honourable Baron Pentland when the lady in charge asked for our photography tickets and we realised we didn’t have one! As we left the building feeling dejected, I thought, ‘I’m coming back next time”, and that cheered me up. I also got a picture with a coach apparently in which all the Governors of Madras used to travel in before our independence. I was still shiny and I goggled at it in surprise. I wanted to get in… but of course no one could because there was a board saying so.

And then, we went out through the exit, feeling very satisfied. As I got into the car, I thought to myself, “My first unforgettable visit to a museum”.
