Haranova Civilization

I’m Icocenia, the beloved daughter of the Chief Mind Reader and Future Interpreter for King Icosetes (It’s the highest position there is) in Haranova. Well, I’ve come up with a grand idea. In Talking Fluency class today, our Manahour said that we were an islandar, a little piece of land surrounded by water, and Mummy said that many people are finding things below the earth that our ancestors used. So, I’m going to write all about Haranova in my memory keeper, put it in a pot and bury it for future people to find.

People of the future……Haranova isn’t little. In fact, it’s huge. It’s in the middle of the Bay of Bengal, in plain sight. Everything around us glistens. Haranova is slightly tilted, so there’s Upper town and then Lower town. I live in Upper town. The Upper town  market isn’t  like any other market. Daddy took me there once, and the merchants laid out their products on fanars, a fabric made of bamboo sticks woven together and shouted in Harenovilan, “Hamars, Hamars anovanoia bolad Gobedies!”. It sounded like music to my ears (Translates to “Pickle, Pickle, made from peaches!”)  Mothers with little girls, fathers with their families…. Everyone, really, usually comes to the market to have fun. And, future people, you should know about the coins! They are the size of my palm! They have  a picture of King Icosteset on it. We write on mud tablets. Our alphabets are so pretty, with lots of lines and circles. We have a symbol or shape for everything!

Girls wear pretty sea otter fur dresses with Rhino horn hats and flower shoe (I have three of everything) and women wear the same, but they don’t have hats. Men wear rabbit fur robes and rhino horn shoes (most of which are chiselled by Daddy’s friend, the Chief Chiseler) .

And our houses….I am sure no other civilization has houses as beautiful as ours.Rocks and boulders are collected, and expertly chiselled to equal size. Metal  and the hair of a horse’s tail is used to make a brush. As we are an island civilization, we have plenty of soil for everyone. The soil and retaran (a glue found only in Haranova and is a very good trading item) is brushed between the stone bricks to hold them in place. Then, mud is slapped on top of that. The roof is also constructed with stone bricks, but has some gaps in between, which are filled with flowers, and leaves. Each house has its own in-built little garden.

We also trade very well. (No, I’m not bragging). We trade with the people of the Indus Valley.

We invented the Manerical, which is a long clay stool with two soft dents (to put your feet in)  to stand on and slide down mountains when it snows. It has a handle and a rope tied to it to pull when we want to stop. It’s both convenient and a lot of fun.

We don’t have a caste system; everyone has equal rights. Everyone is perfectly peaceful, but when it comes to war, our weapons beat any other history has and will see for many, many years.  We worship the Sun and the Moon because they light up the sky. We have a special little building made for praying, the Inarew. At 5:45 am in the morning (Yes, we have a concept of time) sharp, everyone comes out in union, lift our palms outward facing the Sun, and in coordination, we chant,

"Haratan, Haratan

Cabode lugh uni

Cabode lugh nuer

Un anfar ler Haratan, Haratan"

as prayer to the sun. We then divide into smaller groups and go bathe in the many waterfalls in Haranova. We have farmers, artisans, merchants, rock collectors, moneymakers… so many careers to choose from! Our streets can get crowded, but we have trees surrounding us, and a beautiful view. Daddy says that he foresaw that this civilization will come to an end in about 60 anubis, due to a terrible storm but I think I will be dead by then because I’m already 10. Oh, that’s Mummy! I think it’s time for me to go and eat some floppy lettuce with roasted rabbit legs and an ibletic (that’s a fruit). Oh well, I hope you future people have learned something about my beautiful country, Haranova. Coming Mummy!

Goodbye!
